It’s a pandemic and many businesses have closed there doors or scaled down operations. What this has translated to is a lot of job cuts, lay-offs and unemployment increase has occurred. Many persons are wondering what their next move is. The hiring process for many companies who are still open for business and expanding is overwhelmed due to the amount of applicants all seeking to win the same position.

The job market has changed and is still changing as I write this post. It would be more accurate to say the market is evolving. That which was once the norm is now obsolete, redundant and a dinosaur idea in the face of technological advancements namely automation. The new economy, yes I said new economy, will need less people. 😳 scary yes but stick with me. Many processes have been automated and there will be more in the future as more business strive to remain competitive. Think about this for a moment, fifteen or twenty years ago factories employed hundreds even thousands of blue collar workers. Now most of those jobs have been automated by technology. Assembly lines that once required someone at each section of the process monitor and attending to the cars assembly has now been replaced by the more efficient and more productive computerized robot. Why, because the company doesn’t have to worry about losing an productivity from workers not reporting on time or absenteeism, or vacation. There is no multiple life insurance or health insurance to cover and no lawsuits from injury on the job. Companies are saving millions by taking this initiative to automate processes. What does that mean for the human factor? It simply means that our skillset has to change. Our area of expertise mist either become highly specialized or we risk been replaced someday as well. The unemployment dilemma will increase if we do not start paying attention to the changes taking place now. Covid has fast tracked the new economy and has slapped us in the face to pay attention. Separate and apart from the negatives of death and infection rate and the many vaccine discussions. We must look at where or world is heading. The old economy is not coming back. We are not going back to what was normal.
There is a new norm emerging (new economy) and we should get oriented and start preparing. How? First understand that based on the trends (and I’m no expert) the way money is been made has changed. The go to school, get a safe secure job and work until you retire and then enjoy your life mantra. Is dead. That’s a false ideology that is no longer relevant for this present time we are living in. Most persons will be changing several jobs over their career. Many businesses now either be out of business or totally restructured in the future. Their is no security in any job. I’m not here to paint doom and gloom on anyone’s job or scare anyone. On just sharing my opinion.
Everything is going online. I think believe that is were we all need to start establishing some “real estate”. If the regular brick and mortar business models are no longer working and jobs are becoming redundant faster than they are replaced. Just read and follow any news channel and you will see hundreds of jobs lost from another business closing or restructuring. Therefore going online is the direction of the future. Globalization gave all of us the opportunity to earn an income online.
The internet is the new economy. Most of us are already using the internet but we are doing so for free. We share our interests and data, allowing businesses to market to us and figure out what we would prefer to spend our money buying. Data is the new currency and attention is the market share. The more attention you have the bigger your market share. Hence why you see teenagers becoming youtube sensations from simply having a large following. Businesses use this attention and pay big bucks to these individuals to market their products or services. Gone are the days where only track star athletes and movie stars get endorsement deals and contracts from large 500 companies. Again the economy has changing and continues to do so.
So how do you get in on this wave of change and not get left behind or have it crash on you? You must find your area of interest and tap into the various social media platforms. Garyvee talks about this a lot. Disclaimer he curses a lot. But he does that because he is very passionate about what he shares and his desire to help people. Second thing you should do is work on improving your knowledge about the social media world and especially to sharp your current knowledge base and expand your skillset. Do not limit yourself.
